I've always had a love of science and understanding how things worked and I have written many pieces that sought to emulate the patterns and governing laws of nature. Laminar Flow is a term used to describe a hydrodynamic phenomenon in which fluid particles move in a streamlined, orderly fashion maintaining individual layers like a deck of cards. The liquidous flow element of the music is represented by a rhythmic motif that often serves as a motor rhythm or ostinato or as the seed of a more developed melodic material. This rhythmic scheme allows the music to be propelled and stabilized, even at varying tempi and orchestral textures. Against this orderly flow of musical momentum, a handful of complimentary musical motifs and melodic bits flow alongside in their own layer, with moments in which all the motifs are presented simultaneously.
