Subtitled "Overture for Trombones," Blowfest is a tour-de-force for the trombone ensemble. The work is very rhythmic and technically challenging for all parts, but does not present the first trombonist with unmanageable range or endurance demands. Though scored for six trombones (4 tenors, 2 bass) the work does have some split parts, making it more suitable for 6 tenors and 2 basses.
