Commissioned by the Fort Wayne Area Community Band of Fort Wayne, Indiana in celebration of their 40th anniversary. This concert overture begins with a broad and stately fanfare, then transitions into a quick Allegro tempo. The interior section presents a lyrical theme which is developed into a full statement with brass flourishes before subsiding and recapitulating the Allegro section, now with the lyrical theme sprinkled in before ending in a blaze of glory and vigor.
The piece is titled after the state nickname 'The Crossroads of America' because of it role in the westward expansion in the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as literally being a central point where many of our nations roads meet. In composing this work I set out to write a piece of music that was engaging and accessible for community band musicians and audiences alike while also having a celebratory tone overall.
