The Liturgical Suite began as a single piece (the middle movement 'Kyrie') as a part of my yearly 'Month of Miniatures' project. The instrumentation was suggested by Jer Umholtz, a trombonist, who added that it would be great to have a movement on either side of it. So that night I composed two more trios to serve as the first and third movements, still using titles derived from the Mass. The other trios utilized trio combinations made by others and then I realized that the music I was writing could work for any combination of bass clef instruments; trombones, euphoniums and tuba, bassoons and even Celli.
Each movement of the work is featured on the Matonizz and Fennell Productions Page in different adaptable formats of instruments.
